1969 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce VIN: AR1480285
This 1750 cc boat tail / round tail / Duetto body Spider is finished in Alfa rosso over an excellent body. The red (rosso) paint has been color sanded
and polished and has excellent depth and luster.
The engine is a fresh blueprinted all aluminum twin cam four cylinder 1750cc. The cams have been degreed, the engine is fully balanced and has a lightened flywheel. Ignition is a computerized Jacob's system with stand-alone coil and computer. It is fed by twin 40mm Weber side draft carburetors, replacing the factory fuel injection. The Webers were the original European Alfa induction system and offer a striking visual improvement under the hood as well as a marvelous sound while driving.
Exhaust is a chrome tubular header fed into custom bent oversized pipe, Borla stainless steel muffler and finished with an Italian Ansa resonator and tip
for an original equipment appearance. The instruments have been recalibrated and cleaned. All electrics are in good working order. The painted dash is in excellent shape, the seats are factory Alfa buckets with cloth inserts and vinyl bolsters all in black.
The rest of the interior is black in color and sports original rubber matting and trim.
The soft top is a new Robbins in pinpoint 36 oz. Vinyl, black in color.
The soft top boot is factory black. The door panels are new.
The door and top weather stripping is excellent.
The brakes are fresh, front and rear, the dual brake servos have both been replaced with new units.
The suspension bushes and all ball joints and tie rod ends are in
excellent shape. The shock absorbers are Bilstein.
The transmission has been overhauled as well and has the sweet feel of a
fresh Alfa gearbox. The drive shaft has fresh u-joints, flex disc and carrier. The clutch is a heavy duty F&S unit.
This Alfa has been rust proofed with Bilstein R-2000 which is a clear non invasive rustproofer that requires no hole drilling and will not deteriorate any plastics or rubbers it contacts.
All glass and stainless bright work are in good condition, as are the window mechanisms.
The headlamps are Hella H-4 units, mounted in the traditional USA manner,
with the rare stainless external trim ring which allows the lamps to be covered by factory Carello aerodynamic covers.
Wheels are steel 14” factory with stainless logo hubcaps,
tires are 165/SR/14 Continental in excellent condition.
This Alfa presents itself visually as if it was straight from the original sales
brochure. The car looks stock yet has had several enhancements that add
to the character of the driving experience without affecting the
appearance of the vehicle from a purists view.
The drivability is excellent. The new engine and driveline have 1,800 miles on them now, (actual odometer reading is 96,967) and the car can now, at this point of engine “break in”, be driven with some vigor.
Engine operating temperatures and pressures are normal.
This car is an excellent example of late 1960s high technology and is very well balanced. Steering, braking, shifting, smoothness of driveline, are all perfect.
