1996 SL500 black on black leather, 5.0L V8, 32 valves with SL1 Sport package
option. Both a hardtop coupe and with the hardtop off a convertible.
This 500SL with stunning black paint has led a pampered life and shows very
little road rash. The paint is deep and very reflective; the automatic black
soft top is functional and appears to have spent most of its life in the down
position. The hardtop on this SL500 is aluminum making it much easier to remove
and store. The interior is gorgeous with supple black leather and a very nice
dashboard. At 109,000 miles the Mercedes is just getting broken in, suspension,
transmission and engine perform as designed are quiet and do not leak. The
differential has a slight howl that can be heard with the top and windows up.
We inspected the differential fluid which looked normal, drained and filled
with new synthetic oil. All electrics function well as does AC, heat, stereo
and remote CD player. There is a small scratch on the right rear bumper, a
2" scratch on the hardtop, a small ding on the passenger’s door and a
small ding on the passenger rear fender which were hard to photograph, wheels are all in great condition as can be seen in the photographs. The glass all appears to be original
with a minor rash on the front glass. Specifications: Monocoque unibody
construction with front and rear crumple zones, front and side air bags, pop up
roll bar, 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS, independent front and rear suspension,
5 speed automatic transmission, traction control, 315hp / 347torque 5L V8,
16x8" alloy wheels, black leather interior with Burl Walnut trim, 10way
adjustable seats. We have the original window sticker for this Mercedes and it
shows $96,385 with the optional SL1 Sport package. The R129 SL500 is hard to
find in this condition and promises to be an appreciating, classic, luxury sports car.
The R129 SL500 is a nice blend of luxury performance with less
potential of service requirements than the newer more complex Mercedes cars. Being a 1996 taxes and
insurance are low in cost with Hagerty insurance listing $9,700 as average value on base model 1996 SL500. Hagerty charges $308 per year to insure this classic car.
